What a UK invoice needs

A unique reference number that follows on from your last invoice.
Your business name and contact details, plus the customer's name and address.
The invoice date and a clear description of the work carried out.
The amount owed, and VAT shown separately at 20% if you're VAT registered.
Payment terms and how the customer should pay you.

Quotes work the same way, but use a "valid until" date instead of a due date so your prices don't run on indefinitely.
